5 Key things to know about Deaf Havana's comeback
Deaf Havana return with new single ‘Lawn Tennis’ and announce album ‘We’re Never Getting Out’ — here’s what to know
After a period of quiet introspection, Deaf Havana are officially back — and their new era is penned to be their most ‘exciting’ and ‘accomplished’ yet.
Last week, the band announced their return on Instagram, dropping a brand new single and confirming details of their seventh studio album.
Although it’s taken longer than expected, brothers James and Matty Veck-Gilodi say starting over was the best decision they could have made.
Here’s everything you need to know:
1. The band scrapped a whole album to start fresh
James and Matty revealed they were already deep into making a new record when they realised it didn’t feel right. “It wasn’t the next era of Deaf Havana as we knew it,” they said, so they ripped it up and started again.
That decision meant delaying their comeback, but they say the wait has been worth it.
“It’s excitement I feel now, not dread,” James said. “I used to dread releasing albums and talking about them because I didn’t know what I was doing. Now, I’ve never been clearer about what this all is.”
2. Their new single is out now - and it’s called ‘Lawn Tennis’
Their comeback single ‘Lawn Tennis’ dropped last Thursday and is the first track from the new album. It explores the idea of resisting a “normal life” and in James eyes’ its an anthem for finally accepting who you are. He admits, “I’ve always wanted to change myself. I’ve just punished myself, told myself I hated myself, and ended up cosplaying as a completely different person.”
Now, though, he says he’s reached a point of self-acceptance. If there’s one thing fans are going to resonate with, it’s the theme of introspection that has long defined Deaf Havana’s music.
3. Their new album We’re Never Getting Out comes out in October
Their new album We’re Never Getting Out is set to drop on October 3rd via So Recordings. It came to life at Otterhead Studios in Rugby, back in November last year.
The album includes 12-tracks and is described as “the best Deaf Havana album and the best thing” they have been a part of writing, so fans are in for a treat.
It’s available to pre-order now!

4. The album features a member of the 1975
Yes, you read that right, We’re Never Getting Out features bass from Ross MacDonald of The 1975, and drums by Freddie Sheed, who’s previously played with Lewis Capaldi and Take That.
The production was handled by their good friend George Glew.
5. They are playing an intimate one-off show to celebrate
To celebrate the release of ‘Lawn Tennis’ announcement, the band are playing their smallest show in over a decade, at London’s Omeara on 22 May. They will be joined by their longtime friend Lauran Hibberd who will be supporting.
It’s going to be a very intimate gig with a cap of 250 people, so fans will have to be quick if they want to get a spot - and hopefully hear some more new music!
Fans who pre-order the album will get a pre-sale code, which can be used on a first come first served basis, on 13th May at 10am.
