Morgan Wade’s upcoming album reveals the blueprint of her songwriting
'The Party Is Over (recovered)' offers a look at Wade’s songwriting roots, giving loyal listeners more of what they connect with most.
Morgan Wade has announced her forthcoming album, The Party Is Over (recovered), set for release on August 1st. The record revisits 11 solo-written tracks from earlier in her career, many written before her major-label debut.
Rather than a typical new album, The Party Is Over (recovered) serves as a window into Wade’s songwriting foundation. According to Wade, she revisited earlier writing sessions to revitalise past songs that still resonate with who she is today.
Fans will be pleased that this project isn’t about nostalgia or repackaging old hits. Instead, it’s about ‘breathing new life’ into previously unreleased, but crucial, material.
These songs may have already existed but by re-recording and refreshing them, Wade offers fans an insight into the roots of her sound.
The fact that she still feels connected with these earlier works, suggests that the new album will resonate strongly with fans too. After all, it’s her strong songwriting and relatable lyrics that have helped build her loyal following.
Her last album Obsessed, released in late 2023, stripped things back and reminded listeners how much can be done with just a voice, a story, and a guitar. The Party Is Over (recovered) keeps that same focus just with material that’s been waiting to be revisited.
The lead single and title track gives an early indication of the album’s tone. Clear and concise lyrics like, “Another year and I can’t leave you alone / And why would I want to?” maintains the directness Wade is known for, without unnecessary embellishment.
Earlier this year, Wade released the first single off the album, titled ‘East Coast’, which was originally introduced to fans during her live shows.
