From festival dreams to political ambitions, here’s what we learned from Yungblud's surprise TV appearance
This morning, Yungblud made an appearance on BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg. In what might have been a surprise to many, the star joined the political chat show to talk about masculinity, Bludfest and his upcoming album IDOLS. True to form, he brought it was unfiltered and honesty.
The interview comes just weeks after the release of his second single, Lovesick Lullaby, from the upcoming album, which is out on the 20th June.
Here’s everything you might have missed:
1. Laura Kuenssberg called it her “most fun interview ever”
Not your average Sunday politics slot. “This is the most fun interview I’ve ever done,” Laura said about her interview with the star. She called Yungblud a sensation and said while she’s not a granny she’s been around and experienced a few to know whether it’s fun or not.
2. He’s challenging what masculinity looks like in 2025
Yungblud spoke about embracing a different kind of masculinity in 2025, calling it “a crazy thing to say” in today’s climate. Whether it’s wearing kilts, voting, or lifting weights, he says there’s room for multiple versions of what masculinity can look like.
3. He says seeing live music has become a privilege
“Everyone deserves a place to go,” he said. He described how going to see music and bands was how he found friends and found his identity, and everyone should be afforded that same opportunity no matter where they come from.
4. Bludfest started because no one took him seriously
He launched Bludfest out of pure frustration: “I got tired that a lot of promoters didn’t take me seriously, so I was like, I’ll start my own — why not?”
The festival returns for a second year in 2025 with 20 bands for just £65, making good on his promise to keep it affordable. This year’s line-up includes: Chase Atlantic, Black Bear and Denzel Curry.
5. He’d love Coldplay to play — under one condition
Yungblud said he’d love Coldplay to play Bludfest, but only if they’re willing to do it for the right reasons. With budget-friendly tickets being central to his ethos, he added that he would love to have them if they were available at a reasonable price.
6. He regularly receives advice from rock royalty
Over the years, he’s become good friends with Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, even collaborating with Ozzy on the music video for ‘The Funeral’.
Advising him on Bludfest, Sharon once told him: “Do not dilute your madness, do not dilute your light.” He says it’s advice that’s helped him stay true to himself in an industry that often wants him to portray himself in a particular way.
7. He’s met most of his idols — and now his album’s named after them
From Mick Jagger to Bowie, Yungblud said he grew up idolising British rock icons, and now he’s lucky enough to call some of them friends. “Mick Jagger said he wanted to meet me — I couldn’t believe it.” He admits his aspires to be like The Rolling Stones’ frontman who, at 81 years of age, plays on stage like he’s still 17.
His fourth studio album IDOLS is a full-circle tribute to that same rock’n’roll energy. Check out his second single Lovesick Lullaby below.
8. The hate still gets to him — even now
Despite his outspoken reputation, Yungblud admits the hate still gets to him. He recalled someone once telling him he was “shit” in a pub when he was 22. Now 27, he says it’s something that he thinks about on a weekly basis.
9. He hasn’t ruled out going into politics
When Laura asked if he’d ever consider a political career, the star confessed “he thinks about it. After all, he spends most of his days connecting with fans, meeting them after shows, saying hello at events.
